My hosting company made an upgrade but it went bad. This caused all the domains to be unaccessible for hours. But seems they restored it in the evening. I created a new support account (mysteriously the previous one disappeared). Here is their report:

Server Thunder6, Red Hat Linux 7.1 kernel has flaws causing problems with high amounts of memory management. Other thunder servers are 6.2 Linux and are safe. Newer isn't always better it appears. This server has been adjusted however, and greater stability should proceed. Currently looking into a kernel replacement to eventually take place of patched one with symptoms above. There should be no adverse effects to sites on this server.

Unfortunately the other side effect is that I couldn't continue the finishing touches (the pending news) on the main site. We'll see how it goes.
