This makes me wonder: Where is Avatar 2? This is coming out in 2017. Letteri is supervising Weta's work on this.

Will we see Avatar 2 by 2018?

Thanks for posting that Shane. Really looking forward to this one, should be a hell of a sequence from ILM.

Does anyone care about Avatar 2 ? It's so odd how little cultural impact that film has left. I forget it even exists sometimes.

Ooh, intriguing collaboration there.

 I think there'd be more hype for Avatar 2 if they had actually started on it, you know, hot off the heels of the first one. The hype and enthusiasm for Avatar has definitely died down. The 3D fad is ubiquitous now, the "billion dollar club" is getting less exclusive and even if they started principal photography right friggin' now, it'd still be friggin' years before the movie hit theatres.

Beeson talks to some journos about the work on the film as he screens a few scenes for them.

Here is a snapshot:
"ILM is doing the first 25 minutes of the movie, which is essentially one big scene that takes place at an intergalactic, interdimensional marketplace. Weta is handling the bulk of the rest of the movie, which mostly takes place on an 18-mile-long space station. And Rodeo FX is doing all of the spaceships and technology."

Interdimensional marketplace?

ILM's interdimensional marketplace shots look a lot like AOTC to me! Compare that to the chase sequence early on in AOTC where they are jumping from speeder to speeder in the extended coruscant chase through the aerial city. Beeson is the master of plagiarism after all just ask John Carpenter (who he had to pay money to for his lifts from Escape From New York!)
