ILM is working on Warner's Aquaman. Hopefully the DCU can get back on track. Aquaman offers something new with waterborne superhero action.

I hope so. James Wan is one of my favorite directors now. The man has been a great horror director for a while (and I hope he doesn't give that up) but he has also proven he can direct action. Here's hoping Warner Bros will let him do his thing here.

It wouldn't surprise me if Alex Wang was supervising the film too. He worked with Wan on Furious 7.

Is ILM a 911 call for this one or the lead vendor? I did notice a Scanline credit on IMDb, too.

I doubt ILM is a 911 because the film just started shooting this month.

ILM had a small credit for PIRATES 5. No names listed, but I assume they were involved in the post credits scene.

Nice!

Did the credit say "Special thanks to ILM"?

Yeah I wondered after I heard the description of that scene if they might have used ILM for it.

And if the International gross doesn't go through the roof, this film may be the last one.

What did you think of the film? Sounded like more of the same to me but I've felt these films were coasting since the end of the Verbinski films.

No, it said vfx and animation by ILM, and then it said Medusa scanning by ILM or something like that.

As for the film, I'd say it was worth a $5 Tuesday matinee if the theater has recliners. It was pretty meh, but it at least had some slightly memorable moments, unlike PIRATES 4, which completely went in one ear and out the other. And it was also mercifully short -- the length of Verbinski's movies kept them from being as good as they could have been.

Huh. Odd. I do know they use Medusa but…I wonder if the other vendors used them and the actors scans for the show? Hmm…interesting. Disney developed it but maybe ILM has exclusivity to portions of it or something and other companies have to go through them?

Yeah the Pirates films have always dragged a bit for me even the really fun first one. The second one was a marvelous spectacle but it was a bit long too. Pirates 3 dragged and I thought wasn't as good as the previous two but the fourth one was just a drag of uninspired filmmaking. The 3D was also so damn dark on that one many scenes were almost unwatchable.

Hey now, what about Green Lan- oh.
...
You talking crap about Man of St- right.
...
Batman v. Superman was mostly well-done VFX, I guess.

Wonder Woman was probably the best VFX work in the current string of WB superhero movies, even if it wasn't perfect. With Snyder not in the director's chair, there was less of his "computer gamey exaggerated CG fight scenes", even if the film still had the overall visual style of the DCEU. There were apparently some green-screen work that I had no idea was green-screen work. (Though I will admit that there was still some unfortunately shoddy digital double work). The DCEU movies just can't seem to catch a break with VFX.

Hmm. That might be the case. Though it seems like very, very minor work for them to be brought in, consider that all we see of
Spoiler: show
Davy Jones is his horned-hat shadow and a brief shot of his claw
. Unless they also had much more work to do on it.

I personally enjoyed Dead Men Tell No Tales. I'm in the minority when I say I enjoyed the fourth one, but I know not many people do. The fifth is better than the fourth, but still not quite up to the first, second or third.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the first one drags. Again, minority here, but the first is my least favourite Pirates. Something about it just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe I've had too many rewatches of it with my family without following up (meaning every time they want to watch a Pirates movie over the past 10 years it's been the first one)

My rankings of the Pirates movies are 2>3>5>4>1 :e_confused:

If you can find it in a cheap theatre still, I do recommend it.

Yes the first Pirates film does drag in spots, but is still fun. I thought the second one raised the bar considerably with the vfx spectacle, and with Davey, but it could have been shorter and tighter as well.

ILM updated their page to include JURASSIC WORLD 2 and MOTHER. Ben Snow is the ILM supe for MOTHER.
